    Notes
    • most probably have a "notaire" act in Martin Sheppard paper date 10 May 1827; "Echange and Agreement Amos Hall et R. Ferguson". Act # 149
    • His son John is the eighth children according to the Church record
    • Amos jr was part-owner of a ship, the "New Carlisle", with is brother-in-law Josuha Beebe. The ship was build in 1807. It was a schooner of 67 tonage

From at least as early as 1790, a number of New Carlisle Loyalists and their descendants were ship owners, ship builders and masters of a substantial number of schooners, brigantines and brigs. The Caldwells were the most prominent in this field but others included the Bebees, Billingsley, Chisholmes, Dobsons, Halls, Sherers and Starnes (13). A number of New Carlisle Loyalists maintained connections with other members of their families who had settled in the present day Ontario. An example of this can be found in a collection of letters from the Ontario Bebees (Beebe) to their cousins on New Carlisle (14) and what may be replies to this correspondence is held privately by a Bebee descendant in Ontario. (The writer has heard of but not seen the Ontario letters).
